As we move deeper into the Age of Aquarius, which really ignites that heart chakra, where we find love and forgiveness, we can see how retaliatory energy really bites us in the ass. It does not serve our greater good so I hope that this article might provide some insight that might assist you on your journey and possibly have you rethink retaliation.
The concepts of retaliation, "an eye for an eye," and the law of attraction are deeply interconnected and can indeed contribute to more trauma and damage to both the human psyche and the soul.
Retaliation, or the act of seeking revenge, often stems from a desire to balance the scales of justice. The principle of "an eye for an eye," which originates from ancient legal codes, suggests that punishment should be equivalent to the offense committed. While this might seem fair on the surface, it can perpetuate a cycle of violence and retribution. When individuals or societies engage in retaliation, they often become trapped in a never-ending loop of harm and vengeance, which can lead to escalating conflicts and deeper emotional wounds.
Many people will quote from the Old Testament claiming an eye for an eye is in the bible because they believe the bible was only written by God (verbatim), not by man, as a form of controlling the masses through fear, but let’s dive a little deeper. The principle of "an eye for an eye" is mentioned in several passages of the Old Testament:
- Exodus 21:23–27: This passage outlines various laws, including the principle of "an eye for an eye," which states that if there is serious injury, the punishment should be equivalent to the injury inflicted.
- Leviticus 24:19-20: This passage reiterates the principle, stating that anyone who injures another person should be injured in the same manner.
- Deuteronomy 19:21: This passage emphasizes that the punishment should be proportional to the offense, stating "life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot."
My understanding and belief is that none of this comes from GOD. This comes from man’s need to control through fear. Again, not from God, who is pure love, but MAN, through his need to control.
Let's look at how Jesus addressed the principle of "an eye for an eye" in the Sermon on the Mount, specifically in the Gospel of Matthew. In Matthew 5:38-39, Jesus said:
"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also." (I believe Jesus knew about the law of attraction and that his attackers would face far more consequences through Karma than he could ever offer them through Eye for an Eye.)
Yeah, I know. That’s pretty telling, isn’t it? Curious that this piece was left in the Bible to counteract Exodus, Leviticus and Deuteronomy. The spell checkers forgot that piece..
In this passage, Jesus challenges the traditional interpretation of the law of retaliation. Instead of advocating for retribution, he promotes a message of non-resistance and forgiveness. (Have you ever heard of Abraham, channeled by Esther Hicks? If yes, than you've heard of non-resistance) By encouraging people to "turn the other cheek," Jesus emphasizes the importance of responding to wrongdoing with grace and compassion rather than seeking revenge. This teaching is a call to break the cycle of violence and retaliation, promoting a higher standard of love and mercy. The very opposite of fighting for something. Fighting seemingly sets a brace doesn't it?
The law of attraction is a philosophical concept that suggests that positive or negative thoughts bring positive or negative experiences into a person's life. Essentially, it posits that like attracts like. When individuals focus on negative emotions such as anger, resentment, or the desire for revenge, they may and typically do attract more negative experiences into their lives. Keep in mind the soul does not judge the experience as positive or negative. Humans do that. The Universe simply responds to the humans vibration which can create a self-fulfilling prophecy where the cycle of retaliation continues, leading to more trauma and more suffering.
Combining these concepts, we can see how the desire for retaliation and the principle of "an eye for an eye" can attract more negativity and conflict, causing further damage to the human spirit. Instead of healing, individuals may find themselves consumed by their desire for revenge, which can lead to emotional and psychological harm and one flip of the switch to turn on the T.V., proves this theory. It’s playing out every day in front of our eyes with our politicians. This cycle can be incredibly damaging to the soul, as it prevents individuals from moving forward and finding peace. They get stuck in, he or she did this first and I’m now doing. If you watched the last movie in The Hunger Games series, you saw President Snow get taken out, only to have his replacement, retaliate and force those games, upon her new targets. So the experience only led the new leader to want retribution instead of finding healing in her heart which would allow expansion and healing for her country. Katniss, seeing what was happening, “unalived” her to put an end to the suffering caused by those in great power.
Breaking free from this cycle requires a shift in mindset and a focus on forgiveness, compassion, and yes, positive thinking- although I think the whole positive thinking motto is entirely over and inaccurately utilized, but I digress. By letting go of the desire for revenge and embracing a healthier outlook, individuals can begin to heal and attract more positive experiences into their lives. This can lead to a more peaceful and fulfilling existence, free from the trauma and damage caused by retaliation and negative thinking.
